The Immigrant Employment Council of BC is thrilled to announce our new partnership with Microsoft Canada to offer newcomers access to free learning resources and discounted Microsoft certifications. Microsoft’s Skills for Employability Program provides learning paths across 10 in-demand jobs that are relevant in today’s digital economy. These learning paths cover a broad range of role-based skills, from entry-level digital literacy to advanced product-based skilling for technical roles providing opportunities for jobseekers—wherever they are starting from—to reskill and upskill for in-demand roles.

This program is available to all newcomers to Canada, regardless of immigration status. Importantly, previous education or experience is not a requirement to access any of the learning resources or certifications. Explore Free Learning Pathways for In-Demand Jobs

These 10 in-demand jobs as identified by LinkedIn’s Economic Graph had the greatest number of job openings globally in 2020, steady growth over the past four years, pay a liveable wage and require skills that can be learned online.

  • Project manager
  • IT administrator
  • Customer service specialist
  • Digital marketer
  • IT support/Helpdesk
  • Data analyst
  • Financial analyst
  • Graphic designer

Once a jobseeker chooses one of the above roles to pursue, they are directed to courses on LinkedIn Learning and Microsoft Learn to gain the role-based skills for the chosen in-demand job. All course content is delivered online and is self-paced. Once a jobseeker completes training, they will earn a certificate of completion.

Become Microsoft Certified

Microsoft is offering jobseekers an opportunity to go deeper on technical skills for three of the roles with Microsoft Learn modules: data analyst, IT administrator or software developer. Jobseekers will gain valuable and in-demand skills on widely used technologies and after completing the exam, will receive a recognized Microsoft Certification.

Certification exams normally cost $100 (USD) or more, but Microsoft is offering a discounted price of $15 (USD) to jobseekers through this partnership.
